Colour
Emphasis can be given to the feeling of the play be using the right colours. The following is a general guide:
Yellow: |
Sunny, cheerful. If greyed indicates sickness or jealousy. |
Red: |
Excitement or rage. Too much red can tire the audience. |
Green: |
Restful, youth and growth. |
Purple: |
Royalty, nobility and death. |
Blue: |
Cool, serenity, vastness (of distance). |
Black: |
Gloom, depression. Too much black can depress the audience, but mixed with other colours gives degrees of coolness or excitement. |
White: |
Innocence, chastity. |
Grey: |
Humility, old age. |
Brown: |
Poverty, oldness. |
Experiment with different colour schemes until the design looks right. You can also use different techniques to create texture on painted surfaces.
